Sweet Tux was reported on facebook as needing help after possibly being hit by a car. He entered a housing development on a Friday night and was then unable to move. Thankfully we saw the post and rushed him to our vet on Saturday. After initial xrays it was determined he had a spinal fracture but he was wagging his tail(possibly a reflex). He was transported to a vet in Puerto Vallarta to immediately have surgery done. He spent 2 weeks at the vet before coming to the shelter. He then was developing complications so was taken to another vet for 5 more surgeries over 10 days. They did “wound cleaning” with each one; opened him and closed him up. He came back to us only shortly after to have developed an infection. We simply couldn’t give up on him. He had another surgery with another vet, to correct the first surgery. He then needed IV antibiotics for a very bad infection. Through all of this, he remained the happiest boy and only wanted to be out with the others.
We can now say, he is 100% healthy and ready for a home! He walks well and even runs around. He does not jump and likely will not be able to. He is very social and playful with the other dogs are truly does love humans. He’s such a great size too. He likely can go on shorter walks but may need time to work up to really long ones. He plays all day so we have no doubt he is fine for daily exercise but he won’t be out running any marathons. He can be alone but does so well with other dogs, he’d love a friend in the home. We’d really like to see him find a forever family after all he’s been through. He is truly deserving of the best life; our little fighter!
