We sincerely THANK YOU for considering being a flight angel and being a part of a rescued dog’s journey home!
The first step is submitting your flight itinerary to adogsnewlife.adoptions@gmail.com or complete the form by clicking below.
Traveling with a Dog to Canada or to US
Information We Will Need
In order to properly book the a dog in the cabin or cargo hold (crates), Airlines require us to submit the following:
Names of all passengers
Flight date and destination(s)
Email and phone number
Sometimes: address and date of birth
If you’re uncomfortable sharing this information, we respect your concerns. Please feel free to communicate any apprehensions you may have. If you are unable to commit to providing this information, kindly inform us asap, as a considerable amount of time and effort goes into the preparations, confirmations, and arrangements for their flight.
Communication & Paperwork
We’ll create a group chat (via WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, or text) that includes the flight angel, the adopter, and our team. This ensures smooth coordination.
We will provide paperwork required for customs. This could include a letter with:
Fliers name and contact information
Adopter’s name and contact information
Dog’s name, breed, shelter intake date, etc.
Please double-check your details—this document is required and must be accurate to avoid delays.
Day of the Flight
A rescue team member will meet you at the airport (usually at the pet relief area unless otherwise arranged) with:
The dog(s) & Travel crate(s)
Health Certificate (includes rabies vaccine date, sterilization, and vet info)
Vaccination booklet to be given to the adopter
You must have the dog(s) and paperwork in hand to check in. Adopters will take the crate/bag home unless other arrangements are made.
Arrival to Destination
For cargo dogs: they usually arrive at the oversized baggage claim area, where adopters will meet you. Please keep the dog crated until adopters are present. Please take a photo when the dog meets their new family. We’d love to be there with everyone throughout the entire process; unfortunately, we can’t. Sharing pictures of the new forever family gives everyone peace of mind knowing everyone has arrived.
Notes for Canada
Canadian customs may require a small inspection and GST fee (up to $40).
You and the adopter can decide how reimbursement is handled.
Additional Notes
The most efficient way through customs is to fly the dog as if they’re your own. All paperwork will be in your name, and the adopter will meet you at baggage claim. It saves a lot of time going through customs, plus many of our flight angels have enjoyed having their own “rescue pup” for the day.
If you prefer not to claim the dog as your own, you can fly as an escort using the customs letter we provide.
Alaska Airlines requires dogs fly under the name of the traveler. Therefore, the people must claim them as their own dogs when they’re going through customs because all paperwork must be in the name of the Flight Angel as the owner.
💜 Thank You
Thank you very much for your willingness to help one of our rescues get home. We truly appreciate your support and hope that you will consider helping us again, next time you visit Puerto Vallarta ❤️
