Marmalade was rescued on Feb 28, 2025. One of our volunteers spotted her outside a grocery store in Bucerias with a man who did not look well. It was very evident the man was drunk and high. We offered a collar and leash, along with vet care. He agreed then changed his mind. She then was almost run over in the parking lot. After seeing him grab her by the collar and being rough, Karen (our volunteer) knew she wasn’t leaving without the puppy. It’s never a good idea to pay for dogs as it encourages people to steal them because they know they can make money. But on this day, she didn’t care. She offered him money for the dog and he relinquished her.
She had a slight eye infection which quickly cleared up with drops. Her bloodwork was great and other than being covered in fleas, she was healthy. She was spayed the same day as rescue because we happened to have a clinic that day! She seems to be your typical playful puppy and we can’t wait to learn more about her. We are guessing she will be 30-40lbs when fully grown but we do not know her parents. She can be applied for now and will be fully finished with protocols by mid March.
