Mai
Female - Lab/Plott hound mix
Age: TBD | Weight: 25kg
Mai was reported on facebook as showing up in a colony in Puerto Vallarta. Nobody knew who she was or where she came from, so suspected she had been abandoned. As soon as we saw the post we offered to take her, knowing she had TVT. Transmissable venereal tumors is an STD in dogs which causes cancerous tumors all over the body, often starting on the genitalia. It’s very common with street dogs in Mexico. Our rescue has treated many dogs with TVT, successfully. Mai has started chemo. We estimate she will need a minimum of 8 treatments, likely more, and she will get one a week. Once completed, she will be spayed and ready for adoption. It’s very rare for TVT to return once a dog has finished treatment but we do recommend cytology follow ups every 6 mths for 2 years; a simple swab any vet should be able to do, to check for cancer cells. Stay tuned for updates on Mai. She loves attention from people and is totally fine with the other two TVT dogs she is kenneled with.
